A few weekends ago my parents came up to visit me. We decided to try something different and booked into a tented camp just out of town. The place is called "Coombs Camp", it's a privately owned game farm that has self catering tents and cottages that tourists can stay in. We expected to spend the night in one of their tents, but as it was cold the owner booked us into a cottage instead. Although he didn't consult us first it was a very sweet cottage and so we decided to stay as we were. There are several types of buck and game on the land, including springbok, bushbuck, rooi hartebees, blesbok and others. There are also warthog and monkeys as one would expect in the South African veld. The cottage has no braai place of its own but you can walk up to the comunal lodge, containing a bar, lounge and kitchen, there you can also find a swimming pool and outside braai area. We had a lovely evening of braaing, drinking lots of wine and playing 30 seconds. You are free to wander the camp as you please and can take a drive down the trails to do some game watching. All in all it was a lovely and relaxing stay and a great place to spend some quality time with my parents. Above is my father, Jim, leaning on the Coombs Camp gate sign. | |
